40Flex Journey | Day 29

Do whatever he tells you.

"God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all."

In worrisome times this is a good reminder: God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all.

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke all share a common view. The book of John is different from those Gospels as it downplays the parables of Jesus (none are recorded) and only 7 miracles are told.

John puts front and centre the reasons for which Jesus came to earth. John also draws Jesus’s intimate relationship with God the Father and Jesus’s personal feelings for His very mission.

How is your relationship with our Father?

Now Think About This

Binary Light

John paints a very strong contrast between a darkened life without God and the brighter new reality of a God-filled life. The word for this is stark. There are no greys. No in-betweens. It is binary. 1 or 0. On or off. No kinda or maybe.

“…the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.”

Abundant Blessing

"From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another." (John 1.16)

You are blessed. Blessed in abundance. Relate to others from this plenty. Give knowing that you will receive. Constantly. One after the the other.

God’s presence in our life is more than enough blessing for a lifetime.

Come and See

"Come and see for yourself." (John 1.46)

This is the best kind of invitation. Come. Get up. Leave where you are. See for yourself. Don’t just take my word. Experience this for yourself.

“Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2.5)

She might as well be giving us this very advice today. Friend: Do whatever he tells you. It will go well for you. Miraculously well.

He Knew What Was in the Heart

Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. (John 2.23-35)

Can you imagine knowing their true nature, yet still choosing to go to them. To Love them. To sit with them. Even to give your life for them. Jesus knew from the very start. Yet He stayed till the very end.

The Challenge

Big Steps Forward

01.
Reflect on the Light

Focus on areas of your life that feel overshadowed. Ask God to shine His light there, and decide today to turn away from patterns that keep you in darkness.

02.
Experience Him Personal

Set aside time to personally encounter Jesus through a familiar Gospel passage. Pray for a fresh revelation of His character and mission in your life.

03.
Act on His Words

Identify one specific nudging from God—forgiveness, service, or a new discipline—and take the first step in obedience this week. Miracles happen in the doing.
