40Flex Journey | Day 24

You fools!

"A person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God."

Every time I read the gospels, particularly the Jesus-interaction moments, it is clear that He was very black and white about things, no grey areas. Jesus made sure that He left no room for doubt about what He was saying. In the current vernacular He was very much in your face when addressing certain matters.

Take this statement: “a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Very direct.

Now Think About This

Theme of the day: You fools! (ouch)

Rich Relationships vs. Worthless Wealth

Wealth on earth is ultimately worthless if one does not have a rich (cultivated, abundant, lavish) relationship with God. Jesus did not say wealth was bad. But He made sure the hearer of His word understands that it is detrimental when wealth or earthy gain becomes all that matters in your life.

Body vs. Soul (Luke 12.4)

"Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that."

Jesus is telling us not to worry about death. He seems to be saying that there is more to just the body. That life as He knows it might not be dependent on bodily functions.

......................................................

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’" (Luke 12.20)

Who will get it? All that we toil for? Lose sleep for? Who will get it?

......................................................

The Present Times (Luke 12.56)

"You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times."

Oh please open our minds and hearts to see more than just our situation.

The Challenge

Big Steps Forward

01.
Spiritual Investment

Journal about areas where material gain overshadows spiritual richness. Commit to one specific action—like increased Bible study—to reinvest in your relationship with God.

02.
Confront Fear

Choose one fear dominating your life and confront it with faith. Pray for courage and take a practical step forward today, trusting in God's eternal perspective.

03.
Trust God's Timing

Identify an area where you've been impatient with God's timing. Commit to praying for patience and share this commitment with a friend for accountability.
